What is E-commerce?
Let us not insult your intelligence ...E-commerce is doing business over the web. If you have a web site and intend to sell something by way of your web site, you are conducting e-commerce. When you really break it down, e-commerce is when you conduct the transaction on your web site.

There are many forms of e-commerce

There are a number of ways to handle a transaction on your web site.

Basic Unsecured Orders: 1. Generating order request by e-mail (collecting follow-up data).; 2. Generating order request, sending order to database.; 3. Both of the above combined.
Secured Orders: 1. Same as above but over a secure server. Generating order request by e-mail etc...; 2. Taking orders over secure server and a secure certificate installed
Secured Transactions: Take any of the above examples and add the feature of accepting credit card payment in the transaction. The key components to secured transactions are having a secure server (SSL) enabled with a secure certificate installed so that you may take the credit card information and assure your buyers their personal info is received safe and secure from their web browser. Secured Fullfilled Transactions: All the above, now add having a transaction terminal (a virtual credit card terminal) that authorizes payment and collects payment all real time. When the transaction is completed, the customer's money is on its way to your bank and you've confirmed the product you are selling is in stock and is being shipped.
